CHICAGO -- The Brown Line's Rockwell and Kedzie stations will close for
no more than six months starting in late February, a Chicago Transit Authority
spokeswoman said Wednesday.
The closures will not occur before Feb. 20, CTA spokeswoman Noelle Gaffney
said. In addition, the Kimball and Francisco stations will be shuttered the
last weekend of February and the second weekend of March. At some point, those
two stations will be closed for four to six months, respectively.
The Armitage, Sedgwick and Chicago stations are scheduled to be closed on the
first weekend of March, Gaffney said. Five other weekend closings of those
stations will occur at a later date.
The station closings are connected to the CTA's $530 million project to
increase capacity and make the Brown Line accessible to the disabled. The
project should be done by Dec. 31, 2009.
All told, 15 stations will be closed temporarily, either on weekends or for as
long as a year.
